“The Spirit of America” Gibson Les Paul Guitar dedication ceremony at Ellis Island with Duane Eddy

Filed under:  gibson les paul guitars  by:  admin

“The Spirit of America” Gibson Les Paul Guitar Will Be on Display at Ellis Island
July 14, 2010 — August 1, 2011
Grammy Award Winning Guitarist Duane Eddy to Help Open Exhibit

New York, NY, (July 8, 2010) A one of a kind custom designed Gibson Les Paul guitar will be unveiled to the public for the first time since it’s creation at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum on July 14, 2010. What makes this guitar so historically significant is that it is entirely hand crafted from artifacts preserved during the centennial restoration of the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island.

This meaningful instrument was commissioned by Gold Leaf Corporation, through an exclusive agreement with The Statue of Liberty–Ellis Island Foundation, Inc., and crafted at Gibson’s Custom & Historic Division in Nashville, TN.

The entire body of the guitar is made from wood that was preserved from steps and doors of the historic Main Building at Ellis Island, the copper inlay and hardware of the Les Paul guitar were created from copper that was preserved from the Statue of Liberty National Monument. Gibson also created a beautiful display for the guitar from a section of an armature bar that was removed and preserved from the Statue of Liberty.

The Liberty Les Paul is the second in a series of fifty independent works of art (representing the 50 states) that will be made from the artifacts and known as “Liberty Ambassadors”. The first work of art in the series was the Liberty Bike, which was featured on the Discovery Channel.
Utilizing the universal language of music, this beautiful example of instrumental art will always serve to inspire the unifying message of hope and freedom while celebrating the diversity of America.

American guitar legend Duane Eddy will help dedicate this meaningful guitar. He is a Grammy Award winner, and a member of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

“The Spirit of America” Gibson Les Paul is one of the most symbolic and meaningful guitars in the world. It will be on display at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum through August 1, 2011.

Gibson ES339 Fat Neck

Filed under:  gibson les paul guitars  by:  admin

Gibson ES339

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=350124403523

In 1958, Gibson debuted a guitar that provided the perfect combination of solidbody and hollowbody features—the ES-335. With a solid maple block running down the center of its thin, hollow body, the ES-335 provides the fat, resonant tone of a hollowbody guitar while delivering the sustain and feedback resistance of a solidbody. Gibsons hybrid design, known as a semi-hollow guitar, remains a perennial favorite of players of nearly every style of music from jazz and blues to rock and punk. While the ES-335 is thin like a solidbody, its body width and length are similar to the large dimensions of an archtop guitar. As a result, many players accustomed to solidbody instruments often find the ES-335s size and weight somewhat unwieldy. Now solidbody players can enjoy the distinctive tones of a semi-hollow guitar thanks to Gibsons new ES-339 model, designed and built by the experts at the Gibson Custom Shop. The ES-339 features smaller body dimensions but sacrifices none of that huge semi-hollow tone that makes the ES-335 universally appealing. Lighter, more compact and comfortable than a traditional semi-hollow guitar, the ES-339 feels like a Les Paul but sounds like an ES-335. Based on the flagship 1959 Les Paul Reissue Neck. “A heftier ‘59 Les Paul Reissue neck profile is also available for guitarists who prefer a chunkier neck but still enjoy fast, smooth playing Action.”
