EDIT: Note I am now under the impression this may be some sort of a conversion…the top colour and figuring don’t seem quite right.

This is a quick no-frills video of a 100% original 1959 Les Paul standard played directly into an old Marshall amp on low volume, recorded with an iPhone 4.

Please note also that’s a metal Billy Gibbons type Peso pic was being used.

I was lucky enough to get a chance to try this outstanding guitar when I was looking to buy an 1959 LP Junior… also got the chance to try a lovely 53 goldtop.

The burst had an incredible tone… very dry and woody sounding… bright, yet full.

Thought some of you might be interested, so I posted it!

Thanks again to the lucky owner forgive me the wonderful opportunity to play it - sorry my playing doesn’t really do it justice… I was a little overawed to say the least!

The Epiphone Les Paul 1959 Standard
In part 1 of the review i show the case and the guitar itself. Mention some features of the case and thats it. Don’t forget this is PART 1 of the review.
The case:
Brown exterior, pink interior, really well cushioned to provide the best protection for your instrument! There is an accessory compartment in the case (Length:18.5cm, Width:12cm, Depth: 5cm) which is great for tuners,plectrums , micro amps and short guitar leads/cables but not straps and long guitar leads/cables.
The guitar:
Mahogany body, rosewood fingerboard with pearloid “Trapezoid” inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets.

2 Gibson USA Bursbucker pickups (Humbuckers). Gibson Tuners (Vintage Style, “tulip” buttons).
The finish is just beautiful ,Faded Cherry Sunburst.
The Straplocks i use are Dunlops and are the best and safest in my opinion, it costs a bit more than all the other ones, it’s still not the most expensive, but it does what it has to do perfectly. Easy to install and I use them happily if we have concerts.

This is a handmade replica of a Les Paul 1959 burst. A friend of mine called Bernd Holzgruber, known for building world famous Spanish guitars for decades, made this tone beauty for me. This guitar is made of Honduras mahogany and has a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Vintage correct: trussrod, nut, neck angle, headstock shape and angle, binding color, knob position, tailpiece position, hide glue, and a very delicate and thin nitro finished sunburst to give me the feeling of having a NOS guitar. Featuring Bare Knuckle The Mule PAF´s. RS Guitarworks electronics. Ernie Ball regular slinky strings. Plugged straight into a Marshall JCM800 50W. Monster Guitarcable.

Not a live video obviously, however I added a slide show to keep it interesting. This has never been released prior and is titled “Lunar Eclipse”. A little history on this one… Many years ago I was in the studio and we recorded this improvised track with me on bass, and Erin Conley on drums. Finally (over a decade later) I revisited the analog tapes and came up with a single guitar part to retain that power trio feel. Lot’s of slide here, an altered tuning, and bass wise even some controlled feedback loud enough to make the snare drum buzz! Towards the end a single open A string swells into 3 part harmony with some guitar shaking for vibrato. Played my original ‘59 burst straight into my ‘89 Trainwreck Express, and I added a little reverb and tape echo during mix down. This track will be on my 2nd CD which I hope to complete in 2011.
