JM If you ever get a chance, you should try Made in Japan Epiphone Juniors or Specials. MIC Epis are ok guitars, but MIJ Epiphones are as good as Gibsons (They also have the same headstock, not the Epi headstock) BUT they sell at about 1/2 to 1/3rd the price. The problem is that legally Japan cannot export them to the US. So, you likely wont find one new or at all …unless you go to Japan

I bought a Epiphone …
I bought a Epiphone Special II for around $165ish its kind of a sometimes to keep in tune but its a very good eletric to start with and I been playing 4 about 3years and its my first eletric and I can’t complain look with in the epiphone range they make nice models for cheaper prices good luck my man

Jren. You should play Les Pauls, Strats, Hollowbodies… then decide what feels best for you. From there, find a friend who knows guitars and go shopping. Try to keep an open mind. Also consider used. Unlike cars, guitars are great used. You just have to know what to look for. Try to save a little more. Get the best amp you can afford.
A great guitar and a bad amp, will just sound bad. A bad guitar and a great amp will sound good. Just keep that in mind. Good luck

It comes with a single coil called a P90. Its a pretty old design. P90 is not as hot as a humbucker, but its FAR hotter than a strat, or tele coil. It gets pretty loud, VERY loud and barky in the bridge, or very clear and bell-like in the neck position (for a 2 pickup guitar). BUT its noisy. It picks up 60cycle hum. So you have to be careful about that. If you dont know about P90s… look em up online first. Those who love em, LOVE em! But, decide for yourself right?

Recommend it …
Recommend it without hesitation. My only complaint is that they dont make a double cut version as well. Probably part of the contract with Gibson.
