So I bought a guitar today, somewhat of an impulse buy. I saw it the other day when I was looking in town at the vintage shop. It’s a Epiphone Les Paul Junior ‘57 Reissue. Equipped with a bigsby….that was the kicker for me.
After having loan of an original ‘59 TV model I knew I wanted a Jr, but couldn’t see myself spending 1K+ on a new guitar, and could never afford a vintage one. I like the way the epiphone feels, has the big neck I like, its a set neck of course, so no, its not one of those crappy Junior Models they have. It’s setup great, plays excellent, and hey, its a P90. It’s got the sound down. Solid mahogany body and neck. It was only made for one year. Also its labeled as Epiphone Custom Shop.
One cool thing about it is the guy that had it before me seemed to have set it up as a player. The back of the neck was refinished/sanded down to remove that glassy finish, so now its nice and smooth, really nice feeling.
Also after reading up on it, it was originally equipped with a P100, I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure this is a replaced P90, also saw people raising up the pickup so it gets closer to the strings………he’s done that too, its nicely done added a spacer, can’t really see it unless you look right up at it. So yeah, this has all the slight mods that make it that much more of a player, I’m really happy with it. Especially for what I got it for $ wise.

minotaur949, theyr discontinued everywhere, not just uk. it was a limited edition model so theyr pretty hard to get ahold of now. i have the sunburst one and am now trying to get ahold of the tv yellow one as well. your best bet is to look on ebay or used stores around you. i wish you luck they really are nice guitars

That sounds like a …
That sounds like a replaced P90. I have this guitar- it’s great and Epi did a awesome job, but the P100 it came with was terrible. Great for punk green-day stuff but no vintage vibe tone whatsoever. Insert a good ol’ P90 and you’re good to go.

sure you can. but …
sure you can. but be sure you’re getting a “Epiphone Les Paul Junior” not a “Epiphone Junior Model” HUGE difference,
for $100 I gotta assume its the “Junior Model” in which case I think it wouldn’t be worth putting more money into to change the pickup. They aren’t very good guitar. IMO for a few bucks more there are much better guitars out there

the epiphone junior …
the epiphone junior is a pile of crap really it was my 1st guitar and ive got now ive got 3 epiphone les paul junior 57’s and when i play the them to tell difference between them you can really tell that the epiphone junior is complete junk, in my opinion the 57 re-issues are better then the gibson les paul juniors.

This guitar and the …
This guitar and the Junior model have nothing in common.
This guitar is solid mahogany, set neck, almost like a real Gibson. It’s “Epiphone Custom Shop”
The Junior model is a beginners guitar that beyond that is pretty much junk in my experience with them. Plywood?, bolt on neck, pretty drab sounding and not o fun to play.
One is a $80 guitar and the other, about $400 now and somewhat collectible. If you can get a ‘57 for a good deal get it. I recommend a good used Squier over the Junior model

THIS.
to be sure …
THIS.
to be sure are you talking about an Epiphone Special model and a Epiphone Junior model?
they are not anywhere’s near this guitar, this is a higher end guitar, solid mahogany with a set neck (epiphone custom shop) this is a ‘57 reissue Les Paul Junior, the bolt on neck guitarsthat may look similar to this shouldn’t be compared.
November 14th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
should i get this …
should i get this or a les paul special 2. both are epiphone
November 14th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
yes there is, it’s …
yes there is, it’s shorter and has less frets
But a Les Paul Junior isn’t a 3/4 or a “Junior” guitar. It’s just used as a model name
