Is a Les Paul Junior lighter than a standard Les Paul?

By: admin
Published: August 13th, 2010

I currently have a Epiphone Les Paul standard and i find it abit heavy at times. The head tends to pull the rest of the guitar over as the head and neck are very weighty. I was wondering if the Epiphone Les Paul junior would be lighter and therefor easier for me to play as i heard it has a thinner neck. I know the obvious choice would be a strat body body but i don’t want the extra 3/4 inches on the scale and i find strats a bit clumsy at times. (just my opinion) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave.

i have a les paul artisan (heavy as hell)
and my friend has like 3 les pauls one of them a junior and let me tell you it is a great improvement in weight.

Does the Les Paul junior have a thinner neck than a standard Les paul?

By: admin
Published: August 11th, 2010

I currently have a standard Epiphone Les Paul and find the head and neck pull down all of the time and also i really like the look of Juniors. Are the necks on juniors thinner meaning not as heavy?
Cheers, Dave.
Thanks alot, yeah i know you get what you pay for but in this case i’ve only been playing six months and don’t really have the budget for a Gibson no matter how much i’d love one. Especially a BJA signature :)
Idk about thinner, but an Epi LP Jr neck will be lighter than yours because yours is made out of mahogany, which is a relatively heavy guitar wood species.

Epi LP Jr necks are made out of pieces of "tonewood" (whatever the hell that is) and basswood or whatever janky plywood the Chinese found laying around in the alley. There’s a reason that those guitar cost only $129, kid.

However, if you’re talking Gibson, the LP Jr necks are mahogany, so they will probably be similar in weight to yours.

What is the difference between the Gibson Les Paul Junior & the Gibson Les Paul?

By: admin
Published: August 7th, 2010

I am interested in buying a Gibson Les Paul but I would like to know the difference between the different types of Gibson Les Pauls. Thank you.

We’re talking Gibson, right? Not Epi. Sorry, but a lot of people on here seem to think that they are similar in make, and they are not. So anyway, off the top of my head….

Gibson Les Paul Junior costs like $850. A Gibson Les Paul Standard is over $2k.

Junior has a solid mahogany body. Standard has a chambered mahogany body w a maple top and binding.

Junior has a decent 50’s style round neck. but Standard has an upgraded assymetrical neck that they use some super hight tech machine on to make it perfect.

Junior has one P-90 single coil. Standard has two Alnico Humbuckers

Standard has upgraded pots

Junior has dots and a signature inlay. Std has trapezoid inlays and Gibson logo headstock inlay.

Junior has a plastic nut. Std has a corian nut

Jr has a Vintage Style Non-Compensated Wraparound Bridge. Std has a Tune-o-maticw lock tailpiece

They both have grover tuners, but I think the Std has upgraded ones.

Jr has a a standard jack, Std has a locking jack.

There are probably more differences

What is the difference between the Gibson Les Paul Junior & a Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special?

By: admin
Published: August 3rd, 2010

Other than the P-90 Pickup?

Because I figure I could just buy this one:
http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Les%20Paul%20Junior%20Special%20Electric%20Guitar_-1_10052_10002_-49953974?cm_mmc=Froogle-_-Solid%20Body%20Electric-_-Les%20Paul%20Junior%20Special%20Electric%20Guitar-_-EGJRAWCH3

And buy the P-90 pickup separate and save $624. Right?

The only differences with the Gibson Les Paul Junior and Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special are the type of quality wood used and the craftsmanship. The Gibson model features mahogany body and the Epiphone features tonewood body. Gibson guitars are made in the United States and Epiphones are usually made in Asia. Despite these differences the Epiphone model is a reasonable guitar for a beginner. Just make sure it has no fret buzz and the electronics all work.
