So im planning on buying a new Les Paul, I have a certain amount of money i want to spend, these two are the limit. The Epiphone has great hardware and just knowing that its a ‘custom’ gives a great feeling. The studio is the basic of the lot, but it IS a Gibson. Could you please explain in detail which one is better for money value, but is going to provide me with the best fun.
I have an epiphone les paul standard (the $450 one) in vintage sunburst and it is an absolute beauty and sounds great! I have no regrets. Running it through a tube amp allows me to hear its great warm tone.
Now, like you said, a gibson IS a gibson, however, the gibson studios are just plain ugly haha. Not that looks are the most important factor, but read on
There IS a subtle difference between Epiphone Les Pauls and Gibson Les Pauls, only someone with a trained ear, or someone listening real closely would be able to hear. Test them out yourself, see if you notice a difference.
If you are on stage and you play an ugly guitar that sounds great, the uglyness definitely has an impact on how people hear you you. My old music professor even talked about how appearance changes how people hear things.

That guy is one of my favorite youtubers, has a bunch of experience, and knows a hell of a lot about guitars. This is the video that made me decide to get an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top.

Some other things:
-The Gibson is very well hand crafted, so it may be easier to play, being that it is more perfectly adjusted and fine tuned.
-Remember, you can always change the pickups if you get an Epiphone
Here’s an analogy:
-An Epiphone Les Paul is to a Gibson Les Paul
as a Fender MIM Strat is to a Fender American Strat
Thats just a generalization Ive heard from people and myself… Thats just what it reminds me of. It makes you ask yourself if the little extra money is worth the small increase in sound, or if you should buy the cheap one for now, save up and go all out and buy a good looking Gibson later.
One last thing… some people DO look down on you if you have an Epiphone–that is, the people who only buy name brand without actually listening to the instruments. However, these people are usually idiots, so you shouldnt be hanging out/ in their band anyway haha
Take the Marshall MG amp for example,. Its waaaay too over priced for a transistor amp. The distortion sounds like garbage.
@the guy below me
Comparing Strats and Les Pauls is like comparing apples and oranges.
Strats are good guitars, dont get me wrong. They are great for Hendrix songs, etc… but for me Les Pauls are the sound of rock!
