So I bought a guitar today, somewhat of an impulse buy. I saw it the other day when I was looking in town at the vintage shop. It’s a Epiphone Les Paul Junior ‘57 Reissue. Equipped with a bigsby….that was the kicker for me.
After having loan of an original ‘59 TV model I knew I wanted a Jr, but couldn’t see myself spending 1K+ on a new guitar, and could never afford a vintage one. I like the way the epiphone feels, has the big neck I like, its a set neck of course, so no, its not one of those crappy Junior Models they have. It’s setup great, plays excellent, and hey, its a P90. It’s got the sound down. Solid mahogany body and neck. It was only made for one year. Also its labeled as Epiphone Custom Shop.
One cool thing about it is the guy that had it before me seemed to have set it up as a player. The back of the neck was refinished/sanded down to remove that glassy finish, so now its nice and smooth, really nice feeling.
Also after reading up on it, it was originally equipped with a P100, I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure this is a replaced P90, also saw people raising up the pickup so it gets closer to the strings………he’s done that too, its nicely done added a spacer, can’t really see it unless you look right up at it. So yeah, this has all the slight mods that make it that much more of a player, I’m really happy with it. Especially for what I got it for $ wise.

Here’s a 2005 Gibson Les Paul Supreme played through my Fender Super Sonic amp with an Avatar 2×12 extension cab. All 3 speakers are 12″ Hellatone 30’s. The guitar was plugged straight into the amp and there are no effects used at all besides the built in tube gain/ditortion…not even reverb. Any differences in sound are from either the controls on the guitar, or my dynamics in playing…or possibly from standing in front of the camera and blocking the speakers sound from getting directly to the built in camcorder microphone. This guitar features a chambered Mahogany body between an Arched (AAAA grade Flamed) Maple top and back…Mahogany neck and Ebony fingerboard round it out and it is extremely dressed up…inlays, binding, gold hardware…and it sounds better than it looks! It plays great, sustains forever, is incredibly resonant with very controllable feedback characteristics…I had my amp cranked…it was shaking almost everything in the house! I’ll be putting this up for sale on eBay very soon. Thanks for watching and feel free to comment and correspond.

Okay, here’s another one. Like some of you said, back in business. Yep. Improvised this one on this great track. Email me to get the track (didn’t do it myself: will be doing stuff like this soon, when Protools becomes compatible with Leopard, it. Upgraded to Leopard (Mac OSX) before I knew it wasn’t compatible. Oh well. Anyway. Guitar here is a second hand 1960 Les Paul reissue (historic), a “Murphy” (Gibson ex-employee who weathered guitars i.e., make look old) “Yamano” (Japanese top-level retail chain who imported into Japan some of the finest piece of Gibson Les Pauls). Mark is a VERY knowledgeable man and VERY good seller. I highly recommend him and his place if you are SERIOUS about a serious Les Paul (oh it’s called GAS by the way, it’s a… disease! 
).
Like Mark had pointed out to me, this particular guitar is VERY bright on its own. Like the real 50s used to be. Still keep stock (burstbuckers and 10s strings gauge). Will see what happens.
